Application

METALAST TCP-HF on Bare Aluminum to replace our current hexavalent yellow chromate process.

 

METALAST TCP-HF has met or exceeded corrosion resistance of conventional Alodine type coatings when applied directly to aluminum.

Tests and Specifications

Depending upon the aluminum alloy, results of 300 to 800 hours can be achieved in neutral salt spray testing. Once coated the paint bonding properties of METALAST TCP-HF meet, at a minimum the results of Alodine, and quite often show dramatic improvements in paint bonding. Applicators have found that in side by side boiling water adhesion testing, METALAST TCP-HF lasts two to three times to failure of Alodine 1200.  Other applicators have been able to use fewer coats or less paint with METALAST TCP-HF then with other hex and conventional hex free alternatives.

METALAST TCP-HF, due to its ability to take high heat without degradation, also allow for greater corrosion protection in applications where the top coating is baked to cure. A recent applicator in Belgium has seen over 1000 hours salt spray with no coating degradation on a powder coating application

General Description

METALAST TCP-HF was originally developed and patented by the U.S. Government, the Department of Defense and the United States Navy after existing coating replacements failed to qualify for Navy use due to high cost and inferior performance. METALAST TCP-HF is a trivalent-based coating to be used as an alternative and drop in replacement for products containing hexavalent chromates.  METALAST International Inc.is the first company licensed to manufacturer, market, and support TCP-HF.

METALAST TCP-HF is a trivalent chromium replacement for hexavalent chromium based post treatments that meets or exceeds performance requirements of current hexavalent products with no adverse environmental impact. METALAST TCP-HF meets or exceeds requirements for the ELV, ROHS and WEEE directives. Additionally, it meets or exceeds corrosion requirements of MIL Std., MIL DTL 81706 B , and MIL C 5541 for class 1A and 3.

METALAST TCP-HF has been tested against and passed all QPL testing to MIL-DTL-81706-B for immersion applications.
